Ashtanga Yoga is the original Power Yoga. It focuses on two of the the eight limbs of Ashtanga practice: Asana (posture) and Pranayama (breath control). Yoga is considered a moving meditation, linking breath with each posture in a rhythmic flow, a dance that is lead by the sound of your breath.
The benefits of Yoga are broad and all-encompassing.
“When the breath wanders, the mind is unsteady, but when the breath is still,
so is the mind.”― Hatha Yoga Pradipika
We are a reflection of our internal body, our organs, and nervous system. The state of these valuable tissues and cells affects how we experience the world.
Yoga purifies the nervous system and tones the body, making it more flexible and strong. It oxygenates the blood, improves respiration, and increases energy.
By the alternate stretching and compressing of the internal organs, the digestive system improves, eliminating toxins. The controlled bending and stretching of the spine engages the nervous system, opening energy pathways and strengthening the joints.
Yoga is often defined as "the restraint of the modification of the mind-stuff." Practice is what allows you to quiet the mind chatter so you can actually think – so that you can be your true self.
Through Yoga you develop a practice that allows you to relax, maintain positive thought, and be able to handle stress and difficult situations more effectively (including challenging postures).
Pranayama, or breath control, allows you to eradicate any negative patterns in your life that find home in your nervous system, causing pain, and blocking pathways. The breath can revitalize your body, bringing clarity and control to your mind.
